Perceptions vs. Reality about Managed Services

In the realm of information technology, many experts are divided when it comes to outsourcing IT support. Only the companies who have actually outsourced their tech requirements know for sure. Here are some of the misconceptions about managed service providers that need to be set straight.

Perception # 1: More People = Better Service
Prospective clients might feel the need to ask how many people are employed by the MSP, hoping to hear a large number that should make them feel secure. The truth is that staff size isn’t an accurate gauge of whether the MSP is compatible with your company. It doesn’t matter if the MSP is staffed by 4 or 40 as long as they can handle their workload efficiently.

Perception #2: Location Close By = Better Service
This used to be somewhat true, but not anymore. All consultations were done on-site before the introduction of remote access and monitoring tools. Today, MSPs manage over 90% of their clients’ technical work remotely.

Perception #3: IT Person on Staff = Better Service
If you have at least one server and more than 5-10 users, you will definitely benefit from having a dedicated IT department without having to burden some poor employee who’s doubling as an IT go-to resource person. You’ll be saving money and doing better in the long run by having the right people doing the right things the right way.
